News of the Future: Oscar Predictions 2018
7:24 pm PST: Thanks for your patience and for checking in while I was recovering from a fourth foot surgery I had in December. I am mostly healed now, and ready to run…with a marathon of blog posts. Because I would never run in real life, unless I was running FOR my life. While I have no athletic abilities whatsoever, I do like to make sports predictions.
I announced some of these Oscar Predictions 2018 on the 1-26-18 episode of our radio show, along with a live broadcast of Eagles win predictions I made with Astrologer Jessica Adams, over a week before the Super Bowl. The Eagles win prediction was reiterated on our 2-2-18 episode with Psychic Medium Lyndsey Paul. Now let’s see what’s coming up for the Oscars…
I am predicting this to be a breakout year with heightened inclusiveness for women, minorities, and the LGBTQ community. For perhaps the first time in Oscar history, personal character, and not just character portrayals, will be a requirement for being able to stay in the race. I am also predicting that the films with the most nominations (The Shape of Water with 13 and Dunkirk with 8) will only achieve wins in visual and audio-related technical categories.
Perhaps thanks to Neptune in Pisces, sci-fi, fantasy, and horror are being taken more seriously in film. The film nominated in most categories is about a woman who falls in love with a sea creature-very Neptunian, but also Uranian in its spirit of inclusiveness and appreciation of unusual beauty.
With Uranus in Aries, we are at a time of new beginnings when it comes to diversity, and I predict that will be reflected in the outcome of some of this year’s Oscar categories. Expect this year’s Academy Awards to be unusual, community-oriented, and a platform for multiple humanitarian causes. I expect a speech at the awards that will highlight injustices such as immigrant deportations in the US. I know a tie isn’t typical, but this year I am predicting the unconventional: a tie for one of the less notable categories, resulting in a shared award for two separate productions. Expect the unexpected when it comes to the cinematography category–that was the hardest category for me to read, as I kept seeing multiple winners.
Finally, I had a vision of clips being shown on a screen at the awards ceremony from 2016, rather than 2017. It’s possible someone does this as a mistake, or perhaps it is a prank. I also see this incident as something unusual from the 2016 Academy Awards that will happen again this year.
Oscar Predictions 2018
Best Picture
Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri
Best Director
Greta Gerwig, Lady Bird
I am predicting an upset for the category of Best Director.
Best Actress
Frances McDormand
Best Actor
Daniel Kaluuya
I predict that there will be sexual harassment allegations that prevent Gary Oldman from winning, throwing the award to another deserving actor in this category–but one who wouldn’t have won if it hasn’t been for this upcoming scandal.
I saw the name Daniel when I looked at this category, and I realise Daniel Day-Lewis is also in the running. But I have a feeling that the Phantom Thread film Day-Lewis starred in will either 1) will be formally disqualified due to not following either SAG or Academy rules, or 2) be portrayed in the news as socially and fiscally irresponsible due to a financial scandal that may involve unequal pay. This press coverage would taint the production’s reputation and hurt Day-Lewis’ chance of winning.
Best Supporting Actress
Allison Janney
Best Supporting Actor
Sam Rockwell
Best Cinematography
Blade Runner 2049
This was one of the most difficult categories for me to read. I kept seeing more than one film. Expect some confusion, or even a small controversy, to unfold in the Cinematography category.
Best Adapted Screenplay
Call Me By Your Name
Best Original Screenplay
Get Out
However, this category could end up being a tie between Martin McDonagh’s Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri and Jordan Peele’s Get Out.
I predict Best Original Screenplay to be the most competitive Oscar category this year. Perhaps an uneven number of voters was planned on to avoid a tie, but I’m seeing one Academy member being unable to vote due to illness, leaving this tightly contested category with either a tie or a near-tie.
Best Costume Design
Phantom Thread
Best Film Editing
Dunkirk
Best Hair and Makeup
Darkest Hour
Best Production Design
The Shape of Water
Best Score
The Shape of Water
Best Song
“Remember Me”, Coco
Sound Editing
Dunkirk
Sound Mixing
Dunkirk
Visual Effects
War for the Planet of the Apes
Close 2nd: Blade Runner 2049
Best Animated Feature
Coco
Despite a predicted win for Coco, kudos and long-term acclaim will be given to Loving Vincent for being the world’s first sully painted feature film.
Best Documentary Feature
Faces Places
Best Foreign Language Film
A Fantastic Woman
Best Animated Short
Lou
Best Documentary Short
Edith + Eddie
While I’m predicting Edith + Eddie to win in this category, I believe Heaven is a Traffic Jam on the 405 will be the documentary short from last year that becomes a cult classic of tomorrow.
Best Live Action Short
DeKalb Elementary
Looking forward to watching the Oscars with all of you on March 4th!
Stay tuned for more predictions…

You were right about most of them, except
for the Best Documentary (Short and Feature, i.e. both of them), Best Animated Short Film, Best Director and Best Picture.
Still, almost all the rest was right on the money, Kyra. Thanks for your work. Strangely, I didn’t even know that The Shape of Water would win Best Director or even Best Picture!
I am looking forward to your next post.
Really?! Don’t you think we would’ve heard of those kind of allegations against Oldman by now?! That ain’t happening.
I can’t wait to finally have Trump out of office. I can’t move past this and not sure why. Love reading your blog Kyra! P.s. Love your name! 🙂
I’m glad you’re feeling better! Recently, if I’m remembering correctly, wasn’t there a prediction prediction you made regarding Trump sending someone in his place to court or something very similar in nature? It was an attempt to avoid being a witness. It’s interesting that Mueller wants to interview him now. Despite his bravado, it’s obvious he’ll use his lawyers as a way to avoid it as long as possible. I’m looking forward to your next prediction with this ongoing saga.
When is your next post coming?
No problem, Kyra. One question, though: what is the future of cinema?
No worries, Jesse! Thank you for submitting your questions, and looking forward to more questions from you and from anyone reading this post.
I wonder when the truth that the presidential election less than two years ago was stolen will be revealed and also, the moment when the current President is finally removed from the White House, along with his associates.
And I’m sorry for losing my patience. I didn’t know that you had another foot surgery.
I hope I didn’t make a mistake.
